The musk ox (Ovibos moschatus) lives exclusively in Arctic and subarctic regions and can weigh up to 285 kilograms, with a shoulder height of 1.5 meters. It sports impressive, downward-curving horns that, in mature males, form a massive helmet—an effective weapon during dominance battles in the mating season. Its thick black-brown coat consists of long guard hairs and a warm underlayer of 'qiviut', a fiber up to eight times warmer than sheep’s wool.
