Photos Norway (Dovrefjell & Rondane)
In September 2025, I traveled to Norway for an intensive and unforgettable photography trip, guided by Floris from Norway Photo Tours. We spent wonderful, long days in the vast wilderness, from quiet lakes at sunrise to powerful waterfalls and autumn colors at their peak in Rondane National Park.
We devoted a large part of the trip to the rugged Dovrefjell National Park, where a stable population of several hundred musk oxen roams. These impressive animals live only in Arctic and subarctic regions. We were able to observe them from relatively close range. In the shifting light, we watched small groups move through the landscape, graze, and interact with one another.
At first light, we set out in search of moose, the largest members of the deer family. They are imposing yet extremely shy animals, perfectly adapted to life in marshes, river valleys, and vast coniferous forests. With their sharp sense of smell and hearing, they are rarely approachable at close range.
We then continued our search for reindeer in Jotunheimen. In this region, large herds of semi-domesticated animals roam freely above the tree line, where the wind bites and the air is thin and cold. They are not tame, but generally less skittish than their wild counterparts. To my surprise, I suddenly found myself standing in the middle of such a herd — a brief, intense moment of pure connection with nature.
And in the evening, I headed out on my own to photograph the northern lights and the Milky Way, and it still feels magical every single time.
