Ulgii - Golden Eagle Festival - Eagle hunters Every October the Kazakhs celebrate their traditions during the annual two day Golden Eagle Festival nearby the city of Ulgii/Olgii. During the festival up to 70 eagle hunters gather and they compete in several contests. In Kazakh and Turkic language the hunter is named kusbegi/kushbegi/qusbegi or berkutchi. The berkutchi mostly wear their traditional costumes. Their fur coats are made of marmot, fox or wolf skins caught by their eagles. The more extravagant the coat, the more respected the hunter.
