Pirang - Bearded barbets (The Gambia)

We encountered the Bearded barbet (Lybius dubius) several times in Gambia, often as a pair. It is a sturdily built and colorful bird. What stands out the most is their 'beard', a set of bristly hairs under their yellow beak. They primarily feed on fruit but occasionally eat insects as well.
