Mandinari - Violet turaco One of the most striking birds was undoubtedly the Violet turaco (Musophaga violacea). This bird has shiny, violet feathers, a red head and a beak with a yellow accent. When it sits still, its red wing feathers are barely visible. But as soon as it flies up, the carmine wing feathers form a beautiful contrast with the dark blue of the wing coverts. It is a playful bird that can often be found in small groups. I was fortunate to capture this magnificent bird in flight several times. What an awe-inspiring display of nature's beauty.
