The Belgambia Lodge is located in Mandinari, 40 km from the airport and at the southern entrance of the Gambia River estuary. It’s a region rich in birdlife, and the lodge features two bird hides. There, we saw many small, beautiful birds, including the Village Weaver (Ploceus cucullatus). This common weaver species is known for its ingenious hanging nests, which it constructs using grass and leaves. They live in colonies and are quite noisy.
