St Abbs Head - Kittiwake The steep cliffs of the Farne Islands and around St Abbs are also home to many breeding pairs of kittiwakes in the spring. These seagulls are called 'kittiwake' after their characteristic call. They live at sea almost all year round and the young birds have to jump off the high cliffs after 5 to 7 weeks.
