Omorate - Dassanech woman (Ethiopia)
From Turmi we drove to Omorate near the border with Sudan and there we crossed the Omo river with a dugout canoe.
On the other side we visited a village of the Dassanech/Daasanach also known as Galeb or Geleb. The Dassanech are agropastoral people and they build simple igloo huts with wood and corrugated iron plates. Their greatest asset is their cattle. They also grow sorghum, maize and beans.
The government is building a bridge on the Omo river, so in the next years many people, cars and trucks will pass the Dassanech villages. I’m quite sure that this will change their way of life.
