Last weekend my hometown Lommel organized the 3th European Contest for Living Statues. Several wonderful living statues and street artists from all around Europe, Cuba, New Zealand and Brazil were invited and during 2 days they demonstrated their skills.

Also this year a couple of blue tits (parus caeruleus) have been living in the birdhouse in my little garden. The whole day they were flying in and out and feeding their young ones yellow caterpillars. The last few days the small blue tits have fledged.

Photos of the German war cemetery in my hometown Lommel on a freezing cold and white Saturday morning in December. It is one of the largest soldier cemeteries from WOII and 39.091 German soldiers are buried here.

In September I went to Uganda, the 'pearl of Africa'. The most fascinating day was the gorilla tracking in Bwindi NP where we met the Nkuringo gorilla family. Here the most beautiful photos of the mountain gorillas Karibu and X-mas.

The most characteristic aspect of the landscape in the Kempen (region in Flanders) is the heathland. From mid August the heather (calluna, Scotch heather) blooms. We went to the Mechelse Heide in The Hoge Kempen National Park to enjoy the rich colour of the purple flowering heathland.

For several years my home city Lommel organizes a sandsculptures festival in summer. The theme for this year is the Greek mythology. There are 15 big sandsculptures of the horse of Troy, Poseidon, the Cyclops, Homerus, Achillus, Damocles, Bacchus, Icarus, ...You can visit them until 16th of September.

In the beginning they were feeding their young ones yellow caterpillars. The last few days all kinds of insects and seeds were on the menu. Now all 4 small blue tits have fledged.
